blimix: Joe by a creek in the woods (Haircut)
I like helping animals. I once saved a dog tethered near my old house from being abused by a bunch of kids, who turned out to enjoy petting her, once I demonstrated. A few months ago, I recognized my current neighbors' dog out front wandering loose, and had him home in a jiffy. And I was very pleased to give my sweetie's indoor/outdoor cat something to do with her claws (she loves it) during the long, cooped-up winter months. (I also once notified a Florida household of the location of their loose dog, who clearly had not wanted to return. The mother struck me as being harsh and likely abusive, but too late. I still regret "turning in" that dog, and hope that she eluded them. It was humbling: In the future, I will trust that a dog who clearly doesn't want to go home may know something that I don't.)

Dolphins impress me, not only by being smart, but especially by their care for other species. I had been aware of instances of dolphins saving humans from sharks. Today's news includes a dolphin saving beached whales. Holy cow.

It makes me really glad that I don't buy tuna anymore. I'm not in a position to do much for dolphins, but at least I'm not helping to kill them.

On the subject of animals, have two LOLcats that I liked: This and this. (The latter, a comment on SUP's acquisition of Livejournal, was linked from an article on web activism and cat pictures, linked by [livejournal.com profile] ratasosk — thanks!)

Superficially on topic, I've just finished reading through the comic archive of "Basic Instructions". This one involves cats.

Completely off topic:

At Karen's suggestion, I have uploaded my résumé to monster.com. It had three views in the first day or so. Hehe! ("Senior Sushi Programmer" was bugging me with too many job postings, so I changed the position title to "Philosopher King" (exact phrase only). I wonder when that position will open up.) (The interface was very buggy. Editing my search lost my profession selections and my alternate position, "Cybernetic ‘Problem Eliminator'". Also, the server offered many unknown errors along the way. Not very professional, Monster.com! (Perhaps they need a cybernetic "problem eliminator"?))

[livejournal.com profile] zimarra pulled a sweet move to steal the Chez Geek win from [livejournal.com profile] kythec a couple of weeks ago. Darned if I can remember what it was. Last Sunday in Betrayal, Karen put a spear through my monster's brain. On the first strike. (She rolled so absurdly high, and I so absurdly low, that the chance of her doing that much damage (or more) was less than one in seven hundred.) At least I got to barbecue [livejournal.com profile] denveromelet first. (He survived.)
