I have just composed a meta-meme questionnaire. For all I know, this has been done before. (I just haven't seen it.)

1. Do you often post memes?

1a. Why or why not?

2. Do you often respond to memes (the kind that ask for a response)?

2a. Why or why not?

3. Have you ever posted a questioning meme with the hope that a particular person would answer it?

3a. If so, and if they didn't, would you be willing to ask them to do so? Why?

4. Describe what you expect to get out of having people respond to your memes.

4a. Describe what you actually get out of having people respond to your memes, if it is different from the above.

That's it.

My answers:

1. Do you often post memes?

Never. Well, this is my first one.

1a. Why or why not?

I try to only make posts with a high signal-to-noise ratio. I view posts that copy content from elsewhere to be mostly noise.

2. Do you often respond to memes (the kind that ask for a response)?

Almost never.

2a. Why or why not?

Mostly because there are so many out there that I would waste too much time on them if I did. I could answer a few, but have no heuristics in place for deciding which ones to choose. (The one I did answer, while trivial, had a reference of interest specifically to me.)

3. Have you ever posted a questioning meme with the hope that a particular person would answer it?

As of this post, yes. If it weren't for Rigel's posting of memes, I wouldn't have been motivated to write this. So it would be neat if she answered.

3a. If so, and if they didn't, would you be willing to ask them to do so? Why?

I have no data points yet. (I will not be able to count this one, since I just explicitly named Rigel (although she won't know that if she doesn't follow the cut), which already constitutes such an invitation.) It would depend on the sensitivity of the knowledge sought, I suppose.

4. Describe what you expect to get out of having people respond to your memes.

Probably, just an excuse to exchange electronic social noises. If I'm lucky, I may be given a little bit of insight, or I may please someone (which would please me).

4a. Describe what you actually get out of having people respond to your memes, if it is different from the above.

I don't know yet; no data points.
